Fender Classic Player Telecaster Thinline Deluxe Review

Written by admin on March 7, 2010 – 9:07 pm -

By Dave Durban, Guitarist Magazine These Wide range humbuckers are an entirely new, updated design The Thinline Deluxe combines two of the guitar world's most classic designs – the Telecaster and Gibson's ES-335. In the construction stakes Fender has excelled with all the Classic Player series guitars, but the Thinline is even better. The overall fit and finish is genuinely superb, especially considering its price. Moreover, a silky black finish is entirely blemish-free, even around the tricky f-hole. Just like the original, we have a more traditional slab Tele body – unlike the solid Deluxe there's no belly contour. However, thanks to its semi-solid design, it's light and comfortable; even lighter than many originals we've encountered. "Blues... more

Fender Classic Telecaster Deluxe Review

Written by admin on February 21, 2010 – 8:04 pm -

by Dave Durban, Guitarist Magazine Why has Fender chosen to revisit the Telecaster Deluxe? "For many years the Stratocaster was more dominant," confirms Fender's marketing director Justin Norvell, "but the Tele has been gaining for several years now - all the more reason to expand our selection of Telecasters!" The Deluxe Black Dove utilizes the same template as its vibrato-equipped sibling, but this time around the name comes from Fender's DE-9000 P-90-style single-coil pickups. They certainly evoke a classic rock vibe and the black pickup covers, especially with the black three-ply scratch plate and crimson red finish, give the guitar a classic SG quality. That said we would love to see this one in sunburst. Sounds With the bridge position... more

50th Anniversary 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard

Written by admin on February 9, 2010 – 3:28 am -

50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Standard It might seem laughable, even absurd, that the guitar world’s failure to appreciate the original Les Paul would lead to its deletion from the Gibson line up after 1960, but so it often goes with creations that are so far ahead of their time. Just a few years later, scores of groundbreaking artists would discover the incomparable power of this instrument, and its premature scarcity would also make it an extremely valuable guitar while the model was really still just a toddler, thus rendering it the first collectible “vintage” electric guitar. Fast forward 50 years, and the Les Paul of 1958-’60 has become the most prized electric guitar on the planet. But to say “the” Les Paul is actually somewhat... more

According to Gibson the Les Paul Tribute 1952 is being built around a two-piece mahogany body (Grade-A) that’s been topped with a two-piece maple top (Grade-C,) and glued together with super-strong Franklin Titebond 50 glue. Gibson hails Angus Young for promoting the SG

Written by admin on November 15, 2009 – 1:13 am -

Gibson has commended AC/DC's electric guitar player Angus Young for helping to popularise the Gibson SG. According to the manufacturer, the Scottish-born rocker has inspired countless musicians to invest in an SG, his guitar of choice. Young was praised for his "incendiary" lead tone and "mammoth" rhythm sound, both of which were said to have inspired "wave after wave" of rock guitar heroes. "He has done it all on a Gibson SG Standard," Gibson remarked. "No-one wallops out the massive bone-crunching tone like Angus Young on his Gibson SG." The electric guitar manufacturer noted that Young purchased this instrument in 1970 and used it on all of AC/DC's albums and tours in subsequent years. A Beginner’s Guide to Electric Guitars

Written by admin on September 18, 2009 – 8:53 pm -

Shopping for an electric guitar or any guitar for that matter is a tedious and time consuming process, and this is especially true for beginner’s electric guitar. What makes one guitar different from another? Is a guitar that costs $1000 better than one that is $500 or$100? You only get what you pay for. It can be a daunting task especially for beginners looking at all the different electric guitar models trying to make a decision as to what to buy. And when you add amps, effects, and everything else involved you end up saying to yourself, “Maybe I don’t need all that stuff.” Well now, what do I REALLY need. Let me just say for the record that I’m far from an equipment expert. There are plenty of “gear heads” out there that get... more
